About

Gaynor's is a third generation family-owned and operated funeral business which has been in operation for more than 100 years. Hugh Gaynor established the business in 1911and provided an efficient service to the community of Castlerea until his death in 1964.  His nephew Tommy Gaynor took over the business in 1965 and introduced many new features including the purchase of a premise on the Square which was renovated to become a funeral home.

His son Paul joined in 1996 after graduating from St. Nathy’s College and completing a two year course in undertaking and embalming in O’Connor’s of Cork. Paul’s wife Susan joined the business in 2001 and works alongside her husband to this day. They completed an intensive refurbishment of the funeral home in the late 2000’s and brought it in to line with present day funeral requirements. The newly refurbished funeral home provides a comfortable and tasteful environment in which to arrange/conduct a funeral.
